It’s every parents’ worst nightmare to have to bury one child, much less having to bury two. Sadly, that’s the horrifying situation the legendary talk show host Larry King has found himself in after losing two of his children within just three weeks of one another.

Fox News reported that King’s 65 year-old son Andy King died in late July of a heart attack. Just last Thursday, King lost his only daughter Chaia King, 51, to lung cancer. Now, the 86 year-old television icon has broken his silence to address these two tragedies.

“It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King. Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed,” he wrote on social media. “Andy passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 28th, and Chaia passed on August 20th, only a short time after having been diagnosed with lung cancer.”

“Losing them feels so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child,” he added. “My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes. In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.”

King adopted Andy after he married ex-wife Alene Akins, and his daughter Chaia was born in 1969. After Aikins passed away in 2017, King honored her on Twitter by writing, “So very saddened over the passing of Alene Akins, who died peacefully with our children Chaia and Andy by her side. She was a grand lady.”

King now has three surviving sons: Larry King Jr. (with ex-wife Annette Kaye); and Cannon and Chance King (with ex-wife Shawn King).

“Larry and his three remaining children are distraught, and Larry’s still recovering from his own health issues from last year,” a source told Page Six. Another insider added, “He did two live shows [of Hulu’s “Politiking with Larry King”]. It’s his way of processing.”

King nearly passed away last year after suffering a stroke. As he recovered, he said he was enjoying having the chance to spend more time with his children.
