Many of us are moms or dads. We’ve felt the sometimes nervous sense of sending our kids off to school, or anywhere for that matter, alone. This is especially true when they are young, say, nine.

But we know they really aren’t alone because at a place like school they are supposedly protected by responsible adults. Thus we quell the small note of fear within ourselves and go on with our day. But what if the unthinkable happens?

What if the worst nightmare for any parent comes true? If your child is lost at the hands of a twisted murderous man with a serious mental illness, as happened to the parents of three nine year olds this week in Nashville, what can you expect from your fellow man? What can you expect from the leaders of our nation?

Solace, comfort, words of healing? A recognition of your loss and perhaps appropriate wisdom? This is what the Nashville parents got from the current president of the United States.

“My name is Joe Biden. I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband,” Biden said from the White House’s East Room, opening his first comments on the shooting. “I eat Jeni’s ice cream — chocolate chip. I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream,” he continued. “By the way, I have a whole refrigerator full upstairs,” he added. “You think I’m kidding? I’m not,” Biden told the crowd of shocked reporters.

Democrats have a history of sick men in the White House. Woodrow had a stroke and was completely mentally disabled his last year in office. His wife and chief aide ran the presidency. Sound familiar?

Franklin Roosevelt was dying his last year in office. At Yalta this walking corpse sided with Stalin against Winston Churchill. Jack Kennedy had Addison’s Disease, was addicted to pain medication and also addicted to injections of amphetamines. This no doubt impaired his judgment. And now Biden. He’s a president so obviously gone, so blatantly out of it, so without a clue that he flippantly goes on about ice cream while addressing a horrible tragedy committed by an evil man.

The time is past for excuses and evasions. The 25th Amendment should be invoked. Yes, even airhead Kamala is better than this. But to guard against this in the future, a yearly cognitive test should be given to the president and evaluated by a panel of medical professionals. Yes, I can see the partisan mischief possible. But it’s happened too often to ignore presidential incapacity yet again.

The results of the evaluation, administered by the White House physician, would be made public. However, it would entail no inherent action. After a report by the aforementioned panel, any action would be up to the House and Senate, like an impeachment. The test would be a standard off the shelf evaluation already in use, thus precluding the partisan gaming of the test. The president should be administered the test every January, save the inaugural year. Biden should be given the test as soon as possible.

Action on this issue is necessary immediately. The ship of state is seemingly helmed by a mental cripple, a man who likely has no idea what he is saying. We are in a period akin to the Woodrow Wilson scenario. This is not acceptable.
