What happened to Matt Drudge?

Three years ago he was all-in for Trump and was an America First champion.

Then, out of nowhere he flipped and became this bitter lefty, pushing fake news and parroting liberal talking points.

Many people suggested it wasn’t Matt at all, saying he had sold off part of Drudge Report (or partnered) with a left-leaning entity with ties to Google.

Those stories kind of let Matt off the hook – making it seem as if he was a “sell-out” in terms of his business but didn’t actually support the left – as if articles were being linked without his approval or support.

“He did what he had to do for his business and himself…Leave him be…he has earned this…” was a common narrative as this whole scene first unfolded.

Well, after reading this article you may think otherwise.

A journalist was curious as to what happened to Matt, so instead of wondering, he decided to go to Matt’s house and ask him.

He knocked on the door and didn’t get an answer but that didn’t stop him.

He called Matt and much to his surprise Matt answered the phone.

The two had a short conversation about the sudden change on the Drudge Report and what he said may shock you.

It turns out that Drudge is not being “held hostage” by some business deal gone wrong…

He’s just moved on from Trump.

Let me set it up for you:

The reporter’s name is Bob Norman and he went to Matt’s house just before the impeachment sham began.

According to his report, Matt saw him knocking at the door on his security camera but didn’t answer because he didn’t recognize the man.

As you read the article you’ll notice that Matt was very preoccupied with the reporter visiting his house. He actually wanted to talk more about that than the Trump stuff

Keep that in mind as you read the excerpts that I will share with you below:

I wanted to ask Drudge about his changing stance on Trump, but he hasn’t given a mainstream media outlet an interview in years. The voicemail I left him went unreturned, so last year, just as the headlines began to turn, I drove out to to Drudge’s house in a remote farming community called Redland in southwest Miami-Dade County.

I did not have high hopes of finding him. Drudge’s house, which he bought along with the adjoining property for about $2.2 million in 2013, is hidden in woods, not far from the Everglades. Pulling up to the entrance after driving on some of Redland’s idyllic tree-domed roads, I expected nothing less than a high-walled bunker. A wooden gate greeted me instead. It was wide open.  [CJR.org]

As I mentioned before, Mr. Norman left Drudge’s property and called him.

I introduced myself and told him I was working on a story for the Columbia Journalism Review, and said I’d tried knocking on his door.

“That was you?” he asked with apparent astonishment.

He said he couldn’t make out who it was in surveillance videos, noted that he’d put up “Keep Out” signs on his property for just this kind of occasion, and had even called the police. (The Miami-Dade force produced no record of such a call, when I asked for one later.)

“That’s not fair that you would come onto my property, knowing the climate we’re in,” he said. “It’s a volatile climate and you could have been hurt. … What happens if it was a fan? What happens if it was a stalker?”  [CJR.org]

Now here’s where he gets into the “Trumpy” stuff – and although it’s a brief exchange, it’s very telling.

Was Matt Drudge trying to guilt-trip me? After going back and forth for several more minutes, he finally asked me what I wanted to talk about. I told him I was curious about his current thoughts on Trump.

“You and everybody else,” he said.

I noted that he went all in on Trump during the election.

“That was three years ago,” he said.

That response seemed rather telling, a clear distancing from the president. But Drudge wouldn’t go further. Instead, he went right back to the supposed violation of his inner sanctum. [CJR.org]

“That was three years ago….”

Clearly, for whatever reason, Matt made a decision, not based on business or some “Google partnership” to walk away from President Trump. That would explain why he’d consider partnering with people or groups who were not America First oriented.

He changed his mind. He moved on.

Here’s the bottom line: Drudge abandoned Trump and all of his loyal readers and he doesn’t even have the guts or decency to tell you exactly why.

I’d suggest that you respond to Drudge’s disrespect by not giving him “clicks” on his site.
