My high level of reading comprehension tells me that NY Governor Andrew Cuomo only said no one could be evicted through the end of June. Still, he neglected to mention if New York State is paying for these people’s rent until then. The rent is still due and owing, so that means on July 1st, everyone will owe April, May, and June’s rent, and the landlords can commence eviction proceedings, mainly because right now, the courts are closed due to the coronavirus.

This, my friends, is called word-semantics. Once the lockdown is lifted, the courts will reopen, and it will be business as usual.

I wish one of these governors or mayors would elaborate. Easy to say, don’t pay, and no evictions. Can they clarify the “order” they gave? That shifts financial responsibility a bit, don’t you think?

I thought the primary purpose of that $2 trillion was to pay companies to keep their employees. That means those employees will keep getting paid. I suspect a lot of people are refusing to pay rents or mortgages even though they still have their jobs.

[The Independent] In his daily coronavirus response press briefing, the governor said: “A landlord cannot evict a person for non payment of rent … that is a law in place through June.”

Mr Cuomo made the statement during his presentation a day after protesters called for the governor to address the needs of New Yorkers who are hurting financially from the economic impact of the coronavirus lockdown.

The governor also revealed the latest data on Covid-19 hospitalisations and deaths, as well as further results from the statewide antibody testing program.

“We are in uncharted waters. But that doesn’t mean we are sailing blind. We are constantly looking at the data to chart our course,” he said.

On 1 May, New York state recorded 831 Covid-19 hospitalisations, a decrease from several days where that figure had remained flat at around 900.

The number of deaths stood at 299, up ten on the day before.

When did this “law” get passed? Every landlord in New York State should file a class action lawsuit against Cuomo. I wasn’t aware that there were ‘short-term’ laws. Aren’t laws passed by the Legislative branch and signed by the executive? This sounds more like a dictate by Cuomo.

Today’s Democrats = Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least capable of leading are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

This is the same Gov. Cuomo that declared nursing home patients infected with COVID-19 could not be denied re-entry into nursing homes. Since then, 25% of all NY COVID-19 deaths are from nursing homes. Will Cuomo also excuse the property owners from paying their mortgages through June as well? It must work both ways.

Let’s see how many of these tenants save that money to prepare for future rent payments. I bet most will not keep their money and will continue to have an excuse for not being able to pay even after this.

This isn’t an excuse to never pay rent again; it’s supposed to help you stay afloat, not unlimited free rent.
