The Constitutional Court of Kosovo has suspended Saturday’s parliamentary vote on a new government in Kosovo.
The Court decided to suspend the implementation of President Thaçi’s decree until May 29, when they are expected to rule whether the decree is in line with the Constitution or not.
On Thursday, election winner Vetevendosje party requested the Court to suspend a Saturday vote in parliament to approve a new government led by the country’s second largest party LDK.
Vetevendosje also requested the Court to overturn Thaçi’s decree that offered the mandate to lead the government to LDK’s Avdullah Hoti for being unconstitutional.
They claim that the only path in line with the constitution after the toppling of the Kurti Government on March 25 are snap elections, which the president has refused to declare, and has instead pushed other parties to form a new government.
Today’s court decision does not say anything about the constitutionality of Thaçi’s decision to sidestep Vetevendosje and mandate the candidate for prime minister of another party.
