Peter Dauo, a prominent Democrat player who worked for Hillary Clinton in 2008, backed her in 2016, and this year backed Bernie Sanders, said on Saturday that Joe Biden should withdraw from the 2020 presidential race: “Credible rape accusations are disqualifying or we have NO moral standards,” he tweeted.

Well, that wouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Biden has been accused of a 1993 sexual assault against Tara Reade, one of his own Senate staffers.

Dauo wants the Democrats to reignite the primary process and said Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), Senator Amy Klobuchar, (D-MA), former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro could all “restart” their campaigns.

It is very unlikely Biden will heed his advice. But the very fact that a man with such a pedigree in Democrat presidential politics calls for Biden’s resignation from the ticket is proof of what may be a slowly emerging consensus against Biden. After all, Democrats in 2016 used similar allegations against President Trump, as Dauo points out, to call him unqualified for the high office of president. So now they are going to run a man who faces the very same type of charge? That’s a load of rank hypocrisy even by Democrat standards.

And what would a reopened Democrat primary look like in the improbable event that Biden did resign? Is it even logistically possible to resurrect the effort? Could the campaigns make such a run after hibernating for months? Mulligan primaries in the days of coronavirus?

The grim alternative for the Democrats is trudging to their new August convention date in Milwaukee, or an online variant of it, with this cloud hanging over Biden’s head. And how will he credibly pick, as he has promised, a supportive female running mate when he himself is accused of sexual assault?

Will this potential VP, no doubt from the hard-left PC social justice warrior wing of the party, want to run with a man who may have committed this kind of heinous act? The steady drumbeat on this allegation will continue until August and, knowing the Trump campaign, into the fall. Stay tuned.
