Still smarting from his sad and embarrassing presidential bid, Democrat Governor Jay Inslee of Washington State has been the drip at the party when it’s come to state responses to federal coronavirus efforts. Not only has he put out partisan statements, but in meetings between all 50 governors and the president, Governor Inslee at times has been the only voice of discord.

But suddenly, the federal operation he has sniped at and criticized is good enough to send packing to another state. Given this development didn’t happen overnight, perhaps the feds had their act together all along.

Weeks ago President Donald Trump ordered U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division personnel from Fort Carson, Colorado, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Pierce County, Washington to build a tactical medical facility inside the CenturyLink Center, the home to the Seattle Seahawks.

At that point, Governor Inslee was screaming like a stuck pig over federal actions in his state. Like the men of Lt. Aldo Raine in “Inglourious Basterds,” the president “obliged” him with the medical facility. But guess what? It was never needed in the first place.

Inslee said Wednesday in a press release, “We requested this resource before our physical distancing strategies were fully implemented and we had considerable concerns that our hospitals would be overloaded with COVID-19 cases.”

He droned on, “These soldiers uprooted their lives to help Washingtonians when we needed them most. Since then, it’s become apparent that other states need them more than we do. It’s only right that we release this capability, so those states have the tools necessary to help end this nation-wide fight that we are all battling together.”

Inslee concluded, “We have to keep our guard up and continue to stay home unless conducting essential activities to keep everyone healthy. But we haven’t beat this virus yet, and until we do, it has the potential to spread rapidly if we don’t continue the measures we’ve put in place.”

“We”? But I thought poor Washington was all alone in the fight, abandoned by a heartless president and an incompetent federal response? Or was that just Chicken Little blather to get you fawning anti-Trump press? I’m thinking the latter.
