I have voted in every election since I was eligible to vote. That said, you get what you get, nothing changes, deals are still deals, you feel powerless, who listens, the powerful and connected rule in their favor.

I do agree that voting would be a lot easier if pandering and deficit spending were illegal. As long as politicians are allowed to buy votes using promises of allocating tax dollars and printing money, there will be no outstanding candidates—even Pres. Trump gets backed into a corner – forced to make big promises to avoid political jeopardy. Remember then-Speaker Paul Ryan and those two omnibus bills of close to three trillion dollars?

I can see why Americans choose not to vote, and it’s a sad case. Once elected, none of these politicians do what they say. They all get bought by big lobbyists. Even Joe Biden came right out and told a voter the other day. I don’t work for you. The whole Democrat party seems more concerned over helping illegals than Americans.

Many feel once politicians are elected into office, they work to make themselves rich. They don’t uphold their oath to uphold the constitution and the laws of our country. They find more and more creative ways to rip off the taxpayers while they become millionaires on the public dime. They tell us to “Pay our fair share” they turn around and give OUR money to some foreign governments, or to pay for legal counsel for illegals.

Meanwhile, we have a crumbling infrastructure, and inadequate school system, homeless Americans. They lie to their voters on the campaign trail and act as they care. Then they get in office and do nothing for 30-40 years.

Here are a few lessons I learned about voting: Discount all political parties and candidates and what they’re saying. Write down issues that are most important to America, to you, and why you think these are important. Now write the problems you are firmly against and why that’s important to you. Research eligible candidates, decide who represents what’s best for Americans. Pray for your chosen candidate, and during open voting, go to the nearest voting place and vote. This should eliminate reasons not to vote.

I put out a survey in a local barbershop asking if they patrons voted and if not, why and some of the responses should alarm our elected officials:

  1. Who had the smart idea of voting on TUESDAY? Maybe if they changed it to Saturday, they would get a better turn-out. I am not going to stand in line after work. Perhaps they should close all businesses on voting day and make it like a holiday. I get to sit at home on MLK day, so why not SUPER TUESDAY!
  2. Lower voter turnout is good. First, it is a sign that things in your society are working well. Everybody knows they have the right to vote, the fact that they are unwilling to put in the minimal effort it takes is a sign they are comfortable in their lives. Second, if you’re not willing to put in that minimum effort to vote, I’m positive you’re not willing to put in the minimal effort it takes to educate yourself about the candidates and the issue. Better to not vote than to vote blindly.
  3. It might be that millions of Americans are tired of being to and by . Maybe millions of Americans are tired of seeing tens of thousands of American troops die trying to provide democracy for those under attack, only to see their leaders ignore how many soldiers were killed and .
  4. To me, voting is a civic responsibility. One doesn’t reject those. Other than being law-abiding, it may be the only civic responsibility one has.
  5. I don’t like the candidates, and the media makes them not want to vote.
  6. The average person knows more about the Bachelor, the walking dead, and dancing with the stars than the candidates.
  7. I didn’t vote before because I didn’t like the candidates, but this time, I’m going to vote for Trump because the economy is doing so well, and I like how he’s handling the coronavirus epidemic.
  8. Because it is corrupt and crooked politicians who run for office.

Some people discourage voters by saying that all politicians are the same. That’s not true. Also, since a higher percentage of the people that vote are older, the politicians tend to favor the concerns of the elderly and ignore the interests of the young. The concerns of the wealthy also take precedence as the campaign finance laws allow them to spend unlimited amounts on candidates.

There is no excuse for not voting. Most states have early voting. Absentee ballots are available. My considered opinion for what it’s worth, they are simply too jilted to take part in the most crucial activity that happens in this country and using their excuse as an insurance policy to remain couch generals.

This is very discouraging news to know that there are so many non-voters in this country; however, as an independent conservative, I see the importance of voting and therefore, will be doing so well into the future.
