President Donald Trump could probably order the White House lawn mowed and someone on the political left would rush to federal court demanding an emergency injunction. The latest legal battlefield? Cutting down trees at a golf course.

Another Day, Another Trump Lawsuit

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to stop cutting trees at Washington, D.C.’s historic East Potomac Golf Course through October 26.

U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes issued a temporary restraining order after federal crews removed approximately 430 trees at Washington, D.C.’s East Potomac Golf Course over the weekend. Reyes later extended the order through October 26. She also required the government to provide three business days’ written notice before making any irreversible changes to the course.

During a federal court hearing on Monday, October 12, 2026, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes questioned government attorneys about the removal of the trees. She sharply criticized government attorneys and questioned their explanation that the tree removal was part of a restoration plan dating back to 2019. And when I say “criticized,” it was more than that. She reportedly yelled during the hearing.

In a ruling issued late October 13, Reyes concluded that the administration’s rush to remove hundreds of trees was driven by President Trump’s plans to redevelop the golf course rather than a sudden decision to carry out a restoration plan dating back to 2019. Reyes emphasized that her conclusion was based on the limited evidence currently before the court.

The legal battle is far from over. Another hearing is scheduled for October 19, when senior administration officials are expected to answer questions about the tree removal.

The Left’s Favorite Governing Strategy: Sue, Sue, Sue

Immigration enforcement? Lawsuit. Government spending cuts? Lawsuit. Renovating a golf course? Better call the attorneys. At this point, the courthouse might as well be the Democrats’ unofficial campaign headquarters.

Republicans Should Start Taking Notes

Republicans might want to remember this playbook if and when the Democrats return to power. Every executive order, controversial regulation and questionable spending decision deserves the same aggressive legal scrutiny Democrats and their allies have directed toward Trump.
