The climate change crowd has found a few more things to blame on global warming. Apparently, rising temperatures aren’t just melting ice caps and threatening polar bears anymore. They’re also being linked to child marriages, teenage pregnancies and violence against girls. Yes, really.

According to a new Plan International report reported on by Breitbart News and discussed during a United Nations climate gathering in Fiji, floods, droughts, cyclones and extreme heat are contributing to these problems by destroying livelihoods, disrupting schools and limiting healthcare.

Researchers interviewed 5,000 girls and young women in five countries including Kenya and Peru. One in ten reported an unintended pregnancy following a climate-related event, while 28% reported increased violence against women and girls during the same time.

The report argues that desperate families sometimes marry off young daughters as a survival strategy. But what about longstanding cultural practices, religious traditions, poverty and the people actually making those decisions? This stuff was going on well before the climate change crowd started yelling about things.

And while researchers are identifying potential connections, experiencing something after a weather disaster doesn’t automatically prove the weather caused it. It’s not cause-and-effect. It’s just a statistic.

Meanwhile, the climate crowd is preparing for another massive international summit in Turkey next month. Perhaps someone should check whether all those conference flights are contributing to the problem.
