Apparently, FBI Director Kash Patel committed the unpardonable sin of attending an Olympic hockey game. Cue the outrage machine.

Never mind that Patel was reportedly consulting on security issues – you know, the kind of thing an FBI director does at a massive international event – and most likely also picking up a few lessons as America prepares to host global spectacles of its own in Los Angeles in summer 2028.

Still, Democrats have been taking up space on X complaining about it. But consistency isn’t exactly their strong suit.

I don’t remember seeing any of their outrage when Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made an Olympic appearance at the women’s ice hockey gold medal game on February 19 where Michigan beat Canada.

And no, there wasn’t any breathless cable news countdown clock for the number of beach days logged by Joe Biden, whose frequent Delaware getaways became a weekend tradition. There was also no outrage about the Obama family trips to Honolulu or Martha’s Vineyard. Or Michelle Obama’s trip to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. Or Jill Biden’s trip to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris – or the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

When their team travels, it’s “working remotely” and patriotic. When the other team does it, it’s a dereliction of duty and an abuse of taxpayer dollars.

Patel at a hockey game? Scandal! Democrats on a taxpayer-funded tour? Totally normal and acceptable.
