With a bold move that’s got the Democrats grabbing bottles of antacids, the Trump administration just hit the pause button on five major offshore wind leases, calling out national security risks these towering turbines could pose.

In a press release sent out on December 22, the U.S. Department of the Interior said, “Today’s action ensures that national security risks posed by offshore wind projects are appropriately addressed and that the United States government retains its ability to effectively defend the American people.”

Critics flooded X with the usual sob story about the need for “clean energy” and the possibility of losing union jobs – but when it comes to protecting Americans from potential threats, Trump is telling the left to kiss off. And so is the rest of his administration.

Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior, said on Monday, “The prime duty of the United States government is to protect the American people. Today’s action addresses emerging national security risks, including the rapid evolution of the relevant adversary technologies, and the vulnerabilities created by large-scale offshore wind projects with proximity near our East Coast population centers.”

The suspension can be extended. Hopefully it’s a permanent extension.

If offshore wind investors are losing sleep – or money – they can thank the Democrats. Trump doesn’t buy their green energy fantasy, doesn’t bow to the activists, and doesn’t gamble with America’s defenses. Protecting the country matters more than propping up another taxpayer-subsidized green daydream.
