Michigan Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel is back at it with her never-ending crusade against President Trump – this round taking aim at the federal government for daring to suggest that maybe, just maybe, not every single person with a pulse is automatically entitled to America’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
If it were up to Nessel, Michigan (and the rest of the country) would become Costco: free samples for everyone from everywhere, just keep the carts moving.
Nessel, flanked by 21 other blue-state AGs who never met a federal handout they didn’t want expanded, filed a lawsuit to stop the USDA from enforcing what the Trump Administration says is already federal law. The horror. According to Nessel, the White House is creating “chaos and confusion” by narrowing SNAP eligibility for certain non-citizens – something Congress did under the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
But Nessel’s view? If they’ve got a green card, a humanitarian designation, or even just a good story they are legally entitled to the benefits – so slide them a grocery card, courtesy of taxpayers. She claims the USDA memo “illegally rewrites the rules,” which is funny, because if anyone rewrites rules on the fly, it’s usually a Nessel press release.
So now she’s suing to make sure that no one – refugee, asylee, parolee, or anyone wandering in with a freshly laminated ID – misses out on their government-funded cornflakes.
In short: When in doubt, feed everyone. When in litigation, blame Trump. And who’s paying for all the extra SNAP benefits for the foreigners? Yes, that’s YOU.
