Remember Jaime West? She is the Indiana Democrat who went viral after a bizarre, slurred campaign interview, complete with anti-Republican rants and a warning that Democrats have guns, too. Well, the voters have spoken now, and West’s political career has officially hit the brakes. Unfortunately for her, there’s no designated driver to steer this campaign out of the ditch.

West lost her race for Fayette County Council District 4 on Tuesday, receiving just 297 votes (19.8%) compared to Republican Gary Keener Jr.’s 1,203 votes (80.2%).

But here’s the real head-scratcher: 297 people actually voted for her! Were they drunk too? Or was a “D” next to her name good enough – no matter the quality of the candidate??!

West became an internet sensation after an October 9 televised candidate forum in which she appeared to slur her words, blasted MAGA Republicans and suggested she’d fire all Republicans if given the opportunity.

Her memorable closing message? “We have guns too!”

Later, appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored (possibly sober – it’s hard to tell), West admitted she’d consumed three beers before the viral interview, explaining she was nervous about possibly entering a room full of Republicans.

But she insisted she wasn’t particularly intoxicated and knew what she was talking about.

When given the opportunity to retract her statements, she doubled down and said no. She warned that we are in a “constitutional crisis” and went on to say that she had every right to be angry. She also admitted that her husband is a conservative libertarian and added with a cackle, “We don’t talk about politics.” But said she had his vote.

Other voters, however, decided to take a pass on her.

Despite the viral embarrassment, West still managed to convince nearly 300 people that she deserved a seat in local government and that is quite absurd. Were they voting for her policies? Her personality? Or did they just appreciate a candidate who brought happy hour to the campaign trail? We’ll probably never know.

But one thing is certain: West may have won the internet’s attention, but Republican Gary Keener won the election. And unlike West’s infamous interview, the results were crystal clear.
