Remember when Democrats insisted abortion should be “safe, legal and rare”? Apparently, the word “rare” has become politically inconvenient. Now, voters in four states will decide November 3 whether to expand abortion protections or roll them back.
From Safe, Legal and Rare to Shout Your Abortion
A recent Daily Wire opinion piece highlights the changing debate, citing an Instagram video celebrating multiple abortions. One comment declared, “100 abortions > 100 kids.” For some social media users, abortion has become a competition for likes.
Four States, Four Decisions
Virginia’s Question 1 would enshrine reproductive rights in the state Constitution, allowing restrictions on third-trimester abortions but requiring exceptions involving the woman’s life, health or fetal viability.

Nevada’s Question 6, approved initially in 2024, would constitutionally protect abortion until fetal viability and afterward when medically necessary to protect the woman’s life or health.
Idaho’s Proposition 1 would loosen the state’s near-total abortion ban, protecting abortion until viability and allowing certain medical exceptions afterward.
Missouri’s Amendment 3 would reverse abortion protections approved in 2024, reinstating significant restrictions with limited exceptions. It would also prohibit certain gender-transition treatments for minors.
Where Should the Line Be Drawn?
Three states are considering expanded abortion protections, while Missouri voters could reverse them. Once again, voters are being asked to settle an issue that never seems settled.
