Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has never been accused of being Israel’s biggest cheerleader. But her latest comments suggest her problem isn’t just with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It’s with pretty much everyone in Israel – including anyone who might replace him.

Following Israel’s recent election, Tlaib posted on X, “Regardless of which war criminal becomes prime minister, Palestinians living under Israeli apartheid will continue to face genocide, land theft, and erasure.”

Apparently, changing Israel’s leadership wouldn’t change her opinion. New prime minister, same accusations. Israel sucks.

Historian Rafael Medoff, writing for 5 Towns Central, argues that Tlaib’s remarks reveal something bigger than opposition to Netanyahu: hostility toward Israel itself.

And for anyone familiar with Tlaib’s political history, that’s hardly breaking news. The congresswoman was censured by the House in 2023 following controversy over her Israel-related statements, including a video featuring the slogan “From the river to the sea.”

Tlaib has maintained that she supports peaceful coexistence and Palestinian rights, but critics see her latest comments as further evidence that her opposition extends well beyond Netanyahu’s administration. For Tlaib, it seems the problem isn’t who’s running Israel. It’s Israel.
