Michigan’s U.S. Senate race has officially entered the land of make-believe, where television scientists are political experts and doctors who don’t practice medicine are apparently just what Washington needs.
Enter Bill Nye the Science Guy, the bow-tie-wearing television personality who has decided that Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is exactly what Michigan needs in the U.S. Senate.
The Science Guy Has Spoken. Now Send Money.
In an October 27 fundraising email from the Abdul for Michigan campaign, Nye urged Michiganders to support El-Sayed, explaining that pollution is bad, science is good and, naturally, the solution is donating $10 to a Democrat.
Groundbreaking stuff.
Nye, who has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, isn’t a Ph.D. scientist, despite decades of playing America’s favorite science teacher on television.
And El-Sayed? He really does have a medical degree, but his career has been spent in public health bureaucracy, academia and politics rather than examining patients. He does NOT have a medical license but the Democrats and the TV debate moderators still call him “doctor.”
So we’ve got a television “science” celebrity endorsing a “doctor” whose preferred operating room appears to be the political arena.
Trust the Science. And the Fundraising Link.
Nye insists that “standing up for science isn’t partisan,” conveniently making that argument in a partisan campaign email asking people to bankroll a Democratic candidate.
He also praises El-Sayed for refusing corporate PAC donations, declaring, “No polluter can buy Abdul.”
Apparently, voters are supposed to accept that as scientific proof of political virtue.
