According to Fox News, a migrant caravan numbering in the hundreds has crossed into Mexico from Central America and is heading north, with many migrants saying their goal is to reach the United States. The Department of Homeland Security says Border Patrol is monitoring the group and warned migrants that the border remains secured.

While migrant caravans heading toward the U.S. have traditionally drawn criticism from Republicans, this one has produced a rather unusual twist. Former Republican Rep. and newly anti-Trump Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) isn’t focusing her fire on the migrants or the border this time. Instead, she’s accusing Republicans of using the caravan as an election-year scare tactic to drive voters to the polls.

“We have not seen a caravan headed to the U.S. southern border in several years, why now?” Greene posted on X. “Oh yeah, there is an election coming, and the GOP needs to scare you into voting because nothing else is working.”

Greene is on the same side of the leftist website Media Matters that is accusing Republicans – and Fox News in particular – of fear-mongering about the caravan. Do they dispute that it’s happening? No. The caravan is real. Instead, the argument has shifted from whether the caravan exists to whether Republicans should be making an issue of it. After all, the leftists don’t like it when facts are exposed – so they have to go after the people who are exposing the facts.

Greene, like Media Matters, accuses the GOP of exploiting the issue to frighten voters ahead of the midterms. Why? Because she needs to get clicks on her social media pages and be relevant.

So what’s really going on, and why is there suddenly another caravan heading north? Maybe the migrants aren’t watching Fox News – maybe they’re watching the midterms. If Democrats take back Congress, those hoping to enter the country illegally may be betting that America’s immigration politics will start swinging back in their direction.
