If requiring an ID and proof of citizenship to vote is such a popular and common-sense idea, why are GOP senators still talking about it instead of passing it? That is a very good question that no one seems to be able to answer.
Senator Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC), the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, is making the SAVE America Act one of her top priorities, saying she is willing to stay in Washington through recess and even support ending the Senate filibuster to get the bill across the finish line.
She argues Americans already need identification for countless everyday activities, so requiring proof of citizenship for federal voter registration shouldn’t be controversial.
The bigger obstacle isn’t the Democrats – it’s the Senate Republicans who might campaign on election integrity every election cycle but suddenly discover cold feet when it’s time to force a vote. Cowards. That’s what they are.
The House has already approved the legislation, yet it remains stuck in the Senate because Republican leaders say they don’t have the votes to overcome the filibuster and have shown little appetite for changing the rules. DO IT ALREADY!!
The SAVE America Act doesn’t have an enthusiasm problem, nor does it lack the support of the American people. It has a backbone problem i.e. the Senate Republicans have no backbone. The House passed it. Now Senate Republicans need to get their crap together and protect the future of the country.
