They say success is about “networking” and that seems to be true. For former VP Kamala Harris, critics have long joked that the networking began with then-San Francisco powerbroker Willie Brown. Decades ago, Harris had a relationship with Brown, who was 30 years her senior and, while still married but estranged from his wife, helped launch her political career – not to mention buying her a nice BMW along the way.

She went on to hold a series of high-profile political jobs, from San Francisco district attorney to California attorney general, U.S. senator and eventually vice president after Joe Biden publicly pledged to choose a woman for the job and ultimately selected Harris because of both her gender and race. Four years later, after Biden’s reelection bid imploded, Democratic leaders quickly rallied behind Harris, installing her as the party’s presidential nominee without a competitive primary. That’s very un-Democratic, Dems!

Fast forward to 2026, and the former vice president is now enjoying the rewards of a political career that has landed her in one of California’s wealthiest and least diverse coastal enclaves.

According to a report in the Daily B.S., Harris and husband Doug Emhoff reportedly purchased an $8.15 million home in Malibu’s exclusive Point Dume neighborhood, an area estimated to be roughly 94% white and 0.2% Black – and known for multimillion- dollar estates, celebrity neighbors and tightly controlled beach access. The luxury neighborhood has drawn criticism over the years because public beaches can be difficult to access despite California law guaranteeing public shoreline access, with private gates and exclusive entry points limiting who actually gets there.

Kamala’s new homestead is an interesting destination for a politician who spent years preaching diversity, equity and inclusion while criticizing racial and economic disparities. Interesting but not surprising.

Apparently, when it comes to choosing a place to unwind, “diversity is our strength” takes a back seat to ocean views, privacy, celebrity neighbors and gated exclusivity.
