While the media spends every waking hour hunting for the next Republican “civil war,” the real political meltdown is unfolding in plain sight—inside the Democratic Party.

Democrats are no longer fighting merely over tactics, candidates, or messaging. They are fighting over whether their party still believes in America at all.

This is not the work of a handful of long-shot radicals. More than 35 candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America have already won Democratic primaries heading into the 2026 midterms. They are defeating longtime incumbents, capturing safe blue seats, and reshaping the party’s bench in real time.

From New York to Colorado to Michigan, the socialist wing is no longer knocking on the door. It is inside the house, rearranging the furniture, and daring the establishment to intervene. So far, the supposed adults in the room have responded by clearing even more space.

That is not a big tent. It is a takeover the Democratic Party still refuses to name.

Here in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, Will Lawrence is generating attention for comments that reveal just how deep this ideological divide has become.

Lawrence is a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who is running for Congress. In 2024, he looked at the legacies of Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lewis and declared that their work now functions as a “pillar for establishment, capitalist, imperialist American power.”

Let that sink in.

An entitled, middle-aged white man with little real-world experience decided that two giants of the civil rights movement had become useful tools of the very system he despises. That is not progressivism. It is historical vandalism—and it is helping tear the Democratic Party apart.

James Carville heard that kind of rhetoric and finally snapped. Reacting to the radicalism spreading through his party, the veteran Democratic strategist unloaded.

There it is: an old-school Democratic strategist finally saying aloud what many within the party have been whispering. The radicals presenting themselves as the party’s future are condescending, overeducated ideologues who believe they know better than everyone else.

Carville spent years tolerating this crowd because he apparently never believed it would actually seize the wheel. Now the raccoons are in the house, and even he is yelling for someone to get them out.

That is not a healthy political party. It is a party watching its foundation crack beneath its feet.

A younger Democratic strategist explained the problem more eloquently. Confronted with the same socialist surge—and the same dismissal of hard-won American progress—she made her position clear.

Exactly. She called the entire posture deeply insulting and made it clear she was not buying what the socialist wing was selling.

When a party’s own strategists publicly reject the ideology being promoted by its rising candidates, that party does not have a big tent. It has a house divided against itself.

Yet the denial continues higher up the leadership chain.

Consider Rep. Pete Aguilar, the third-ranking Democrat in the House. When confronted with the growing influence of socialist and communist-adjacent ideas inside his party, he laughed it off.

“Laughable.” That is the official response from Democratic leadership.

DSA candidates are trashing the legacies of Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lewis. Anti-American rhetoric is spreading through the party’s progressive wing. Yet the number-three House Democrat responds with a chuckle and a dismissive wave.

That is not confidence. It is willful blindness.

Then there is Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a mainstream Democrat who at least has the honesty to sound the alarm. Looking at the socialist movement and its many problems—including antisemitism—he said it plainly.

That is a career Democrat warning his own party that socialists are attempting to hijack it with anti-American rhetoric—and that they must be stopped.

Gottheimer is not a right-wing provocateur. He is a Democrat acknowledging that the radicals are no longer satisfied with influence. They want control, and the party apparatus continues to make room for them.

Even Sen. Mark Warner could not confront the problem directly. When asked about his party’s ideological direction, Warner attempted to dismiss Graham Platner as a one-off curiosity rather than acknowledge the broader pattern.

Watch him dance around the issue.

Warner refuses to admit that the socialist wing is no longer a fringe annoyance. It is a growing faction with real power in Democratic primaries.

That is the tell. When a senior senator cannot simply acknowledge that his party has a problem with candidates who reject capitalism and condemn American power, the problem is already much larger than any single candidate.

Deflection is not leadership. It is surrender by another name.

Rep. Seth Moulton described the party’s bankruptcy in even blunter terms, drawing upon the very real frustrations of very real voters.

No plan for immigration. No plan for the economy. Just relentless opposition to President Trump.

A party that defines itself solely through hatred of one man—while elevating candidates who condemn America as imperialist—is not a governing party. It is a protest movement cosplaying as a political alternative. At this rate, that is exactly what it will remain.

Then there is Sen. John Fetterman. The man who survived a near-fatal stroke has emerged as one of the clearest voices warning that his party is crossing a dangerous line.

Nearly 60 percent of Pennsylvania Democrats reportedly want him gone, which tells you almost everything you need to know about the party’s future.

When a sitting senator openly questions whether his party’s direction still reflects his values, its supposedly moderate center is not holding. It is collapsing.

This is no longer a normal policy debate. It is an identity crisis the Democratic Party cannot resolve.

One faction still pretends to represent working people and American strength. The other openly despises the economic and political system that made American prosperity and freedom possible. Party leaders keep trying to conceal that contradiction by calling it a “big tent,” but the canvas is ripping and the poles are beginning to buckle.

Meanwhile, the America First movement is not consumed by arguments over whether capitalism is evil or whether America is worth defending. We are focused on borders that work, an economy that rewards work, abundant American energy, and a foreign policy that puts our national interests first.

We do not need to apologize for this country or rewrite the legacies of its greatest moral leaders.

The media will continue pretending that the real political drama is on the right. Ignore them.

The genuine meltdown is happening inside the Democratic Party—out in the open, in its candidates’ own words and across its own platforms. Democratic leaders made room for the DSA. Now they are living with the consequences.

And the American people are watching.
