The Clintons showed up. Hollywood showed up. Politicians showed up. It was the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Thursday, and it was a bastion of progressives worshipping the great Obama, complete with celebrities, political royalty, and enough glowing tributes to Obama to power a small wind farm.

The guest list looked like a Democratic Party reunion tour mixed with a Hollywood awards show. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush (the Dems’ new BFF since he’s anti-Trump), and Joe Biden attended, along with Hillary Clinton and a collection of celebrities eager to celebrate Barack Obama’s legacy. California Governor Gavin Newsom, former VP Kamala Harris, and US Rep. Nancy Pelosi were also there. President Trump wasn’t invited (I’m sure he cried).

Obama worshipers Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Stephen Colbert, and David Letterman showed up. Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and others performed.

So what’s in the library/museum? The better question and observation is what’s NOT there.

Will visitors find exhibits dedicated to Operation Fast and Furious? The IRS targeting scandal? The Obamacare promise that Americans could keep their doctors? The years-long Russia collusion narrative that dominated headlines and investigations surrounding President Donald Trump?

Will there be an interactive display showing how the Trump-Russia story unraveled after years of investigations failed to establish the conspiracy many Americans were told existed? Will visitors find out about Obama’s part in derailing President Trump’s presidency?

Do you support individual military members being able to opt out of getting the COVID vaccine?

Probably not.

A word of advice if you’re visiting Chicago: skip the carefully curated Obama nostalgia tour and spend your money on deep-dish pizza, Taco Bell, a river cruise, or just about anything else. You’ll get a more honest look at the city than you will from a museum dedicated to telling one politician’s favorite version of his own story.
