In Seattle, confetti is apparently more disruptive than chanting about ICE agents. We have seen the results all across the country: If the cause leans Left – protesting ICE, joining the 2018 gun-violence walkouts, skipping class for climate strikes, or staying home under expansive COVID policies – suddenly flexibility abounds. Early dismissals become “civic engagement.” Absences turn into “student voice” and “First Amendment rights.” Funny how that works.

In the Emerald City, after students walked out of school to protest against ICE, Seattle Public Schools did not report broad disciplinary punishments for students leaving school grounds. No suspensions or expulsions for the walkouts were confirmed by the school. They didn’t even confirm that the students were even marked absent.

But there’s no flexibility for students in Seattle today for those who want to go to the championship parade to celebrate the Seahawks’ victory over the New England Patriots at the Super Bowl.

According to the Daily Mail, Seattle Public Schools will be open today and students will not be given an excused absence to attend the parade. The school’s statement reads, “As the city plans celebrations, including a victory parade planned for Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., we want families to know that Seattle Public Schools will remain open with the normal early-release Wednesday schedule.”

Maybe if today’s parade was for an anti-Trump rally or an anti-ICE march, the school buses would already be warming up. Sorry, kids.
