In Washington’s latest round of manufactured outrage, the Senate nevertheless approved a spending package to keep most of the federal government funded through September, though the measure must return to the House for another vote. According to Just the News, the package passed with bipartisan support in a 71–29 vote.
Just the News also reports, “The deal separates funding for the DHS from five other spending bills that will fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year, but included a continuing resolution to keep the DHS funded at its current levels through Feb. 13.”
The bills were separated out because the Democrats want to make ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) funding an “issue” even though the DHS bill funds other things besides ICE including FEMA, TSA, the Coast Guard and many other things.
Here’s the part the Dems don’t tell you: ICE has already been funded (generously) in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill through 2029. Border enforcement, deportations, and interior enforcement isn’t suddenly going to vanish if the Left gets their way and holds up or kills the ICE funding in two weeks.
This truly isn’t about defunding at all. It’s a tactical pause while Democrats scramble to keep immigration chaos alive as a campaign issue and figure out how they’re going to use the political weapon to rally their progressive nutso voting base by trying to demand reforms and restrictions on ICE.
Bottom line: ICE isn’t broke and it’s not going to be anytime soon. The main thing underfunded in this situation is Democratic credibility which is being stretched thin with every manufactured crisis they roll out.
