In a plot twist straight out of a political parody, a niqab-wearing woman with a well- documented history of voting Democrat has suddenly popped up as the lone Republican candidate in a North Carolina State Senate race – apparently deciding that dodging a contested Democratic primary was the path of least resistance.

The move has conservatives scratching their heads and checking voter rolls in what looks like an infiltration of the GOP primary – complete with a “costume,” confusion, and a suspicious lack of actual Republican credentials.

The Gateway Pundit is reporting that Lakeshia M. Alston is the GOP’s newest “star candidate” for North Carolina Senate District 22. Except – plot twist – she’s been voting in Democratic primaries since at least 2008.

With no other Republicans filing, Alston is cruising to the nomination unopposed.
