Here’s a surprising celebrity flip-flop for you: Rob “Meathead” Reiner, longtime purveyor of anti-Trump and anti-MAGA insults, has suddenly discovered “political civility – after years of calling Trump “Hitler” and branding his supporters “fascists” and “Nazis” and “hardcore racists” among other gems.

According to a Breitbart News report, in an interview with Piers Morgan, Meathead actually said that Democrats should dial back the name-calling.

“It doesn’t get you where you want to be,” Reiner told his interviewer. But somehow, it took him more than ten years to realize this.

Reiner admitted that you actually have to rally people around things that you agree with. Novel concept, I know.

So what might those things be that Dems believe in? Let’s see… Things like unfettered illegal immigration; men in women’s bathrooms, locker rooms and sports; letting criminals out of jail; defunding the police; and antisemitism.

Actually, I can see why name-calling is a much better strategy than trying to rally people around your insanity.

But let’s be charitable with the elderly washed-up actor/producer/director/Trump hater: maybe he’s had an epiphany. But what’s more likely? Maybe he finally figured out that calling everyone who disagrees with you a “Nazi” for more than a decade is not really a winning strategy and kind of makes you look like you are in need of psychiatric help. Even before he was railing against Trump, he was calling the Tea Party names.

Here’s the thing: reining in a potty mouth and disgusting behavior after years of hurling “Nazi” labels doesn’t magically grant you credibility. You can’t just wake up and expect your prior smears to evaporate. No, we aren’t going to pretend that Meathead’s last decade of rhetorical sewage never happened.

But we’ll all watch eagerly to see how long his newfound devotion to civility lasts. I say less than a month.

Because if you missed his appearance, Reiner was on Bill Maher on September 27th (less than a week ago) and told Maher talking about this very subject in light of the Charlie Kirk assassination. Reiner said that dialogue should only take place if there’s consensus on certain facts. Democrat facts, of course.
