When you describe what are essentially confessions and instructions for hiding a murder as “touching,” you don’t sound like a reporter, you sound like a defense attorney on retainer for the Manson family.

And that’s the tell, isn’t it? When a story involves a protected narrative like transgenders, too many in the press reach for euphemisms and violins instead of facts and spine.
