So here’s a take that’s absolutely bananas…According to Breitbart News, ABC News correspondent, Matt Gutman, recently described the texts from Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin, Tyler Robinson, to his transgender roommate as “very touching.”
DISGUSTING: ABC’s Matt Gutman says he’s not sure “if we have seen an alleged murder with such specific text messages” that were “very touching, in a way, that I think many of us didn’t expect — a very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the… pic.twitter.com/ulPcxoOwM3

Gutman said the texts between Robinson and his lover were “Very touching, in a way, that I think many of us didn’t expect – a very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself, with him repeatedly calling his roommate, who is transitioning, calling him ‘my love.’ And ‘I want to protect you, my love.’”
Let’s break down why this is less “empathic journalism” and more “did you lose your mind”:
- The texts are from an individual accused of assassinating Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.
- These messages detail information about the weapon and where things were placed, as well as a confession, which somehow is now being framed as endearing because he called the guy “my love.”
Earth to Gutman: Yes, we know that even monsters have moms who will defend them – and relationships. But you actually went on air and called Robinson’s texts to his transgender lover to cover up a murder “touching.” SERIOUSLY?!
Gutman is more than tone-deaf. He is amazingly, astonishingly, disturbingly tone-deaf.
When you describe what are essentially confessions and instructions for hiding a murder as “touching,” you don’t sound like a reporter, you sound like a defense attorney on retainer for the Manson family.
And that’s the tell, isn’t it? When a story involves a protected narrative like transgenders, too many in the press reach for euphemisms and violins instead of facts and spine. Reality can slam into their windshield at 60 mph with confessions, logistics, the whole grim package – but the Leftist outlets will still soft-focus it because the suspect’s identity checks the right boxes. If your first instinct is to cradle the narrative rather than confront the evidence, you’re not reporting – you’re running cover.
