It was no picnic on Friday morning, August 2, on an interstate in Pennsylvania when a truckload of frozen hot dogs made a break for freedom. After a tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle and scraped a concrete divider, thousands of frankfurters were flung across the highway like they’d been shot out of a bratwurst bazooka.
According to NBC News, four people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries – and no word yet on whether they’re recovering with mustard or relish.
The scene was an all-you-can-eat nightmare. Scattered sausages lay across lanes in both directions, snarling traffic and likely confusing squirrels in the area. Highway crews quickly rolled in with heavy machinery, not to grill, but to scoop up the rogue links and restore order.
“I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,” Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman said. “I did not know that.”
While most hot dogs dream of a warm bun and a sunny backyard barbecue, these rebels took a detour – straight into commuter chaos.
