In many ways, the Democrat have it easy. They aren’t expected to DO much of anything. They’re just expected by their voters to push back against Trump. To be the resistance.

And that’s what they did again yesterday. Welcome to the Democratic Drama Club, folks, featuring the latest two-act spectacle: “Democrat Senators vs. Judicial Trump Pick Emil Bove.”

Act one opens with Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who is a likely 2028 presidential candidate, center stage, delivering an unhinged monologue and saying, “Dear God…There’s no need to rush this” as he invoked a committee rule to try to force more debate time.

Act two? The great walk-out – Democrats scuttled stage left with dramatics, chanting “kangaroo court” as they left. Too bad they won’t leave for good, huh?!

Booker stayed behind for a while though, finishing his speech – although he didn’t filibuster for hours and hours like in a previous tantrum. However, he did spend his remaining time sermonizing to the Republicans and cried, “This is outrageous that you’re not allowing senators to have their fair say before a controversial nominee is being done. This is unbelievable. This is unjust. This is wrong.” But the Republicans on the committee merrily clicked the vote forward anyway.

Let’s talk nominee: Emil Bove. Who is the dude? Bove is Trump’s former defense attorney and a top Justice Department official in Trump’s second term. He is now a judicial nominee for a lifetime position on a federal appeals court overseeing New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the US Virgin Islands.

“Whistleblower” Erez Reuveni reportedly claims Bove once literally said “fuck you” to court orders about migrant flights. Bove denies it – but even if true, he sounds like a winner to me! Why should Dems be the only one to ignore the law for political gain?!

Bove’s résumé is also raising eyebrows with the Dems, not only because of the whistleblower complaint, but also because of the rest of his greatest hits as acting deputy AG – like axing prosecutors tied to January 6 cases and asking for a list of FBI agents who investigated the Capitol chaos. And his move to toss out charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams.

In the end, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, a Republican, was having none of the Democratic theatrics concerning the nomination of Emil Bove. The vote was taken, it passed (12-0) and the issue will be advanced to the full Senate floor.

Democrats? Furious, but apparently not furious enough to stick around and vote (i.e. do their job).
