It looks like the Department of Defense (DoD) is done playing social justice bingo. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has officially declared an end to “identity months” at the Pentagon, meaning the days of themed celebrations and taxpayer-funded diversity luncheons are over. Instead, the DoD will be getting back to what it was actually created for – national defense. Shocking, right?
For years, the DoD has spent more time crafting DEI statements than combat strategies, but Hegseth has made it clear that the era of endless “special” months is over. The DOD press release says “Going forward, DoD Components and Military Departments will not use official resources, to include man-hours, to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months, including National African American/ Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, National Hispanic Heritage Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and National American Indian Heritage Month.”
The press release also says “Our unity and purpose are instrumental to meeting the Department’s warfighting mission. Efforts to divide the force – to put one group ahead of another – erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution.”
Yes, no more rainbow camouflage or feel-good leadership retreats. Leftists are naturally clutching their pearls, lamenting the loss of these “important” initiatives. But let’s be real – China and Russia weren’t exactly shaking in their boots over the DoD’s diversity training. Maybe now, instead of counting microaggressions and having drag queen brunches, the military can count how many of our jets are operational.
