To the joy of earthlings everywhere, MSNBC’s Joy Reid is finally being shown the door. The liberal firebrand’s show, The ReidOut, has been axed amid a ratings nosedive so steep it could double as a ski slope.
Reid’s 7 p.m. slot is history according to the Daily Mail who says her replacements are Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele. WHO?!
Reid’s exit is less a surprise and more a belated inevitability. The network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, is swinging the axe in a desperate bid to resuscitate MSNBC’s plummeting viewership, which hit a historic low in January among the coveted 25-54 demographic.
Reid, a darling of the hard hard hard-left echo chamber, couldn’t stop the bleeding – and most likely added to it with her fiery rants and polarizing takes. But they apparently lost their charm somewhere between Trump’s inauguration and the network’s 65% post- election audience slide.
Reid’s tenure wasn’t exactly a quiet one. Known for her unapologetic progressive swagger, she built a brand on skewering conservatives and serving up hot takes that occasionally veered into conspiracy territory.
Trump had something to say about Reid’s exit (of course) saying on social media, “Based on her ratings, which were virtually non-existent, she should have been ‘canned’ long ago, along with everyone else who works there.” He added about MSNBC, “This whole corrupt operation is nothing more than an illegal arm of the Democrat Party.”
Crying about getting booted, Reid said, “I’ve been through every emotion… anger, rage, disappointment, hurt… guilt. You know, (a feeling) that I let my team lose their jobs.”
Is Rachel Maddow the next one to be canned? One can only hope.
