Attention, fast food lovers and drone enthusiasts alike…Wendy’s just threw a burger-sized curveball into the world of food delivery. Yes, you heard it right – Wendy’s is now taking fast food to the skies, quite literally, with the help of some high-flying drones.
But before you start imagining burgers raining from the heavens like some kind of delicious meteor shower, it’s currently only happening in Christiansburg, Va. where they are running a pilot program.
Really FAST food…
The good people of Wendy’s are testing the waters (or should I say, the skies?) by dropping off your favorite fast food treats via drone in “30 minutes or less.”
That’s right, they’re promising speedier service than a cheetah with a jetpack.
And these aren’t your ordinary, run-of-the-mill drones; these bad boys can zip through the air at a whopping 65 mph, making sure your fries stay crispy and your Frosty stays frosty.
No need to go out in the cold dark night to get your burger.
Picture this: you’re sitting at home, hunger gnawing at your insides, and suddenly you remember that irresistible craving for a Baconator. Normally, you’d have to summon all your energy to drag yourself out of the house – or rely on the boring DoorDash driver to deliver your meal within the hour.
But not anymore, my friend. Now, thanks to a collaboration between DoorDash and Alphabet’s Wing, Wendy’s could come to you faster than ever before, courtesy of those buzzing wonders of modern technology – drones.
Deliver by drone, please.
Now, you might be wondering, how does this magic work? Well, it’s simple really. Just hop onto the DoorDash app, select the “deliver by drone” tab, place your Wendy’s order, and voila!
Before you can say “supersize me,” a squadron of drones will be dispatched to fulfill your fast food fantasies. And the best part? It’s all free of charge, because who needs delivery fees when you’ve got drones?
Of course, there are a few prerequisites for this airborne culinary adventure happening out in Virginia. First, you’ll need to be within a 2.5-mile radius of the designated Wendy’s location, because even drones have their limits.
Landing pad needed.
Secondly, you’ll need a suitable landing spot for your drone-delivered delicacies, whether it’s a lawn or some other makeshift helipad. I’m thinking maybe you can decorate a tarp with a big bullseye that says, “fries here please!!”
And lastly, you’ll need to be prepared for the possibility (and excitement) of your meal being delivered by a fleet of automated delivery droids if you order a LOT of stuff.
Just imagine the sight of a swarm of drones descending upon your neighborhood like a hungry locust plague, but instead of crops, they’re harvesting Baconators.
For most of us who don’t live near Christiansburg, Va, we will have to wait our turn. But DoorDash says this is just the beginning. They plan to expand their drone delivery service to other cities across the US, ensuring that no burger lover is left behind.
