How divided are we? This is an important question that a good friend asked over the weekend.
It’s the message the Democrats are peddling all the time— “America is a country divided,” they proclaim. A country on the brink of disaster because of President Trump and those far-right-wing extremists. Democrats must step up and save Democracy from the dangerous MAGA crowd and, of course, Trump, who they are trying desperately to keep off the ballot this year.
That will soon be decided by the US Supreme Court, and though it should be an easy 9-0 decision, it may come back differently. I think it will be an 8-1 decision, with Kentanji Brown Jackson supporting the idea of blocking Trump from the ballots in several states—we will soon find out if I am right.
And yes, that does have the country divided, but look at how divided we have been in the past.
We fought a Civil War over the institution of slavery in large part.
In my lifetime, there was a great divide over the Vietnam War and the assassinations of JFK, his brother less than five years later, and MLK.
America has been very divided in the past, and right now, we have divisions, but not like those, at least not yet.
I am an optimist in 2024, and so was my friend, who said we have more we agree on than disagree.
For example, we talk about the open border, and now the supermajority of Americans get it. 75% now call it a crisis or consider it very serious—making it something Americans appear to agree on.
Surprisingly, we are even seeing Democrats who once supported atrocious ideas like sanctuary cities saying, “No more!” In fact, some progressive mayors in deep blue cities like Edison, New Jersey, are saying the illegals are flat-out not welcome and should be deported immediately. On that, we also agree.
All across America, people are coming together to demand border security. Democrats will continue to flaunt the open border at their peril because it’s pushing people away from Joe Biden and to the Republicans. This is paying off for Donald Trump, who has substantial leads in all the early states, including Iowa, which will caucus in just one week.
Members of Congress and the American people agree that something must be done, and people must be held accountable.
Speaker Mike Johnson says it’s time to deal with Secretary Mayorkas, who he believes intentionally left border laws unenforced. Johnson also said he believes Mayorkas lied under oath about the situation.
Something else the vast majority of Americans agree with is keeping boys and girls, men and women, divided when it comes to playing high school, college, and certainly professional sports. Some people just don’t get it—they think men beating up women is somehow equitable.
And there are more things we agree on. For example, as New York and other states are moving to reimpose mask mandates and other draconian COVID lockdowns, Americans are united in rejecting them because we know masks do nothing to stop the spread of COVID.
Oh, and it’s worse than that.
Bret Weinstein appeared on Tucker’s show and cited a study claiming that as many as 17 million people may have been killed by the vaccine.
And why are we united in rejecting the whole Covid narrative? Because we learned our lesson—those who got the jab and those who didn’t are united in rejecting the fearmongering doomsday nonsense.
Most Americans are on the same page regarding Joe Biden—they don’t like him. He is the most unpopular President of my lifetime and maybe of all time.
We are united on the idea that Joe Biden must go—even Democrats!
We have seen one failed policy after another and agree it is time for a change!
