California Bolshevik Governor Gavin Newsom Thursday unveiled a proposed gun control constitutional amendment. He’ll use it to leverage a national discussion and use that as a springboard for a presidential run. It’s such an obvious ploy.

His office argle bargled this statement, “The Governor’s proposal guarantees common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, independent voters, and gun owners overwhelmingly support — including universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age to 21, instituting a firearm purchase waiting period, and barring the civilian purchase of assault weapons.” Complete horse manure.

“Our ability to make a more perfect union is literally written into the Constitution,” Newsom said. “So today, I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to do just that. The 28th Amendment will enshrine in the Constitution common sense gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and gun owners overwhelmingly.” Notice the inclusive pitch. This is after Newsom has treated California Republicans like mud and thrown myriad insults at Republicans in general. Oh yeah, he’s soooo bipartisan.

He’s also hoping, with Trump’s latest indictment, the GOP defensively rallies around the former president thus making Trump’s nomination more likely. Newsom may get that wish. But this George McGovern with a tan may find Trump, indictments plus probable convictions and all, not so easy to beat.

Details of the amendment from Fox, “The proposed amendment would raise the federal minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, mandate universal background checks ‘to prevent truly dangerous people from purchasing a gun that could be used in a crime,’ institute a reasonable waiting period for all gun purchases and bar ‘civilian purchase of assault weapons that serve no other purpose than to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time — weapons of war our nation’s founders never foresaw,’ the California governor’s office said”. The Founders never foresaw a modern toaster. Should we ban those too?

The NRA is having none of it, “Newsom’s latest publicly stunt once again shows that his unhinged contempt for the right to self-defense has no bounds. California is a beacon for violence because of Newsom’s embrace of policies that champion the criminal and penalize the law-abiding. That is why the majority of Americans rightfully reject his California-style gun control.”

Alarms must be going off at the White House. Newsom could challenge Biden directly or wait until Joe falters in the primaries and pounce then. The West Coast is in the pocket of the California Ken doll, as are possibly New York and, baring unforseen developments, Illinois. That’s a good ways toward the Dem nomination.

Bobby Kennedy can’t be happy with this, as Newsom could steal a lot of his press thunder (if Kennedy isn’t iced out like Gabbard was) with this obviously stalking horse issue that has absolutely no chance of becoming a constitutional amendment.

This is a shot across the bow at Joe Biden from Newsom. If Biden doesn’t take heed Newsom will get tougher and nastier. Biden’s acolytes, wanting to keep the gravy train on track, will respond in kind. Welcome to the Thunderdome.
