Last week, the original James Bond himself Sean Connery passed away in his sleep at the age of 90. Now, his widow Micheline Connery has announced plans to honor his final wishes with what she plans to do with his ashes.

“We are going to bring Sean back to Scotland – that was his final wish,” Micheline said, according to People Magazine.

“He wanted his ashes to be scattered in the Bahamas and also in his homeland,” she added. “Whenever it is possible and safe to travel again, then it is the family’s intention to return to Scotland with him. We would like to organize a memorial service for him in Scotland – that is our hope. But we cannot say when this will happen exactly.”

The Connery family lives in the Bahamas, which makes traveling back to Scotland difficult right now amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Micheline, however, made it clear that they plan to carry out the actor’s final wishes at some point in the future.

“We would like to organize a memorial service for him in Scotland – that is our hope,” she continued. “But we cannot say when this will happen exactly.”

Micheline, who was with Connery when he died in his sleep, added that the current plan is to cremate him in a private service in the Caribbean and then to keep his ashes someplace safe “until we can travel.”

“We do not know when this will be possible,” she said.

Micheline revealed last week that Connery’s final months were blighted by dementia, which had taken a serious toll on him by the end.

“It was no life for him,” Micheline told Daily Mail. “He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted. He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”

Micheline, a 91 year-old Moroccan-French painter, met Connery at a golf course in Scotland in 1970, and she would go on to become his second wife.

“He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together,” she said. “He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last for ever and he went peacefully.”
