In 2016, President Trump did the impossible and beat Hillary Clinton to become the next President of the United States. What’s interesting to note is the silent party behind swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Ohio. This party single handily won the election for President Trump and they appear to be backing Trump in the 2020 election as well. Introducing the group long forgotten by the Democrats – the American Union Workers.
According to several union workers, the 2020 election feels similar to the 2016 election. The workers even used words like Globalist, China apologists, and corrupt when talking about the presidential hopeful Joe Biden. What’s even more interesting is the fact that many of the union workers used the same terminology to attack Hillary Clinton back in 2016.
One worker even went further, attacking Biden’s policies of coal and free energy. The worker claimed, “We’re reliant on coal. Of course, I supported Trump. I never voted ever before in my life, but I voted for Trump because of his policies. He wasn’t a politician. I’m sick and tired of the politicians thinking they put their pants on in some spectacular way that we don’t know how to do.”
When showed the recent polls that have Biden in the lead, one worker laughed as he said, “If the Democrats think they’ve got a lock on the unions, they’re fucking crazy. My kids are union, and they’re both Republicans. I was born and raised in a union household, but I didn’t leave the Democrat Party. They left me and my values.”
But why the sudden change in beliefs? For many of these union workers were once Democrats that believed in the party they backed. Even some union bosses have come out to publicly endorse Biden, yet majority of the workers continue to vote Republican. For one worker named Eric – it’s simple. He said, “There are other union people I know who are voting for Trump, why the Democrats think they have a lock on us, I have no idea. The Democrat Party left us behind 30 years ago.”
With more and more support going toward President Trump, the election tonight could be a lot closer than polls have previously predicted. There are even many already claiming that Trump will win again as he did in 2016.
