Over the summer, dozens of current and former employees of “The Ellen Degeneres Show” came forward to accuse host Ellen DeGeneres of turning a blind eye to racism, intimidation, and sexual misconduct on set. On Sunday night, DeGeneres appeared to try and make amends for this when she thanked her “amazing crew and staff” while accepting the award for Daytime Talk Show of 2020 at the E! People’s Choice Awards.

Entertainment Tonight reported that when DeGeneres, 62, took the stage to accept the award, she made a point of thanking those who work hard behind the scenes on her show every day.

“From deep, deep down in my heart, I thank you. I am not only accepting this award for myself but on behalf of my amazing crew and staff who make the show possible,” DeGeneres said.

“They show up every single day, give 100 percent of themselves 100 percent of the time. That’s 250 people times 170 shows a year, times 18 years, and if you carry the two and divide it by 11 — my point is, I love them all,” she added with a smile. “I thank them for what they do every single day to help that show be the best.”

DeGeneres also thanked the fans who have stood by her throughout the last few months, when at times it looked like she was at danger of being “cancelled.”

“I know this award comes from the people. Thank you to the people, thanks for all of my fans for supporting me and sticking by me,” she said. “I can’t tell you how grateful I am and what this means to mean, it’s more than I could possibly tell you — especially now. Thank you so much.”

Back in September, DeGeneres apologized for her negative behavior on set when the new season of her talk show premiered.

“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show, and then there was an investigation,” she said.

“I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected,” DeGeneres added. “I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and I realise that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”
