The singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson shocked her fans back in June when she filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock, who is also the father of her 6 year-old daughter River and 4 year-old son Remington. Now, disturbing details about her split have come to light as it’s been revealed that Clarkson hit “rock bottom” afterwards.

“She’s breaking her silence,” a source close to Clarkson told OK! Magazine. “She wants to talk about everything. The divorce is the hardest thing Kelly’s ever done, but she’s finally starting to look forward to the future.”

Clarkson and Blackstock seemed like the perfect couple to friends, but behind closed doors, they were anything but that.

“When Kelly gained weight after having Remington, she started hearing whispers that Brandon was hitting up bars and partying with other women,” the insider explained. “Then she remembered all those sordid stories of how he cheated on his first wife.”

Things only got worse when Clarkson and Blackstock went into quarantine together on their ranch in Montana in the spring.

“They both had a lot of pent-up anger and the hostility just grew,” the source said, adding that their kids saw some of their fights. “Kelly felt it wasn’t right for them to see their parents at each other’s throats all the time, so she packed her bags and went back to L.A.”

Clarkson knew the divorce was going to get nasty right from the start, and the source said she was furious when she learned that Blackstock wanted half of her $45 million fortune.

“Kelly braced herself for an ugly divorce,” the source said. “The word is she ultimately agreed to a lump sum along with cash from the sales of two of their mansions. She looks at it as housecleaning.”

Eventually, the emotional toll on Clarkson got to be harder than the financial one.

“Kelly knew she’d hit rock bottom when she collapsed in a crying heap alone in her room,” the insider added. “It was the mother of all meltdowns. She thought she couldn’t take another day. She saw divorce as a failure. Everyone thought Kelly and Brandon’s relationship was picture-perfect, but it wasn’t, and the guilt was tremendous.”

That’s when Clarkson decided to get therapy, and everything turned around for her from there. These days, she’s doing better than ever!

“Kelly’s embracing life as a working single mom,” the source said. “She loves her career, but she makes sure to be home to cook dinner and tuck the kids in at night.”

Clarkson is also looking at her marriage in a whole new light.

“She was miserable in the marriage and has come to realize that leaving was necessary,” the source continued. “She’s saying she’s learned a lot about herself.”
