Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have gone above and beyond to keep their 1 year-old son Archie out of the public eye as much as possible. That’s why it came as a welcome surprise to royal fans everywhere when they opened up about their son in a new virtual chat with activist Malala Yousafzai.

While appearing in the chat from their $14 million mansion in Santa Barbara, California, the couple said that they feel “fortunate” to have gotten to witness Archie’s first steps during the coronavirus crisis. Meghan explained that they have been having “a lot of good family time” during the pandemic, with Harry adding, “We were both there for Archie’s first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything.”

“It’s just fantastic and in so many ways we are fortunate to have this time to watch him grow,” Meghan said. “In the absence of Covid, we would be traveling and working more externally and we’d have missed a lot of those moments.”

“These are really special moments, but we have been working really, really hard,” Harry continued.

Meghan went on to say that they are raising Archie “in a way where everything about his nourishment is about educational substance and how you can learn and how you can grow.”

This comes two months after Meghan, Harry, and Archie moved into a mansion in the ritzy Montecito community of Santa Barbara.

“Archie is really happy, and he has space to run free,” a source said. “The house came with a play structure that he’ll be climbing in no time.”

Archie has also been making lots of cameo appearances on his parents’ frequent Zoom calls.

“Archie is no stranger to climbing in front of the web camera and making little impromptu cameos,” said “Finding Freedom” author and royal reporter Omid Scobie.

Meghan had given another update about Archie earlier this month.

“We are doing well. [Archie] is so good,” Meghan said, according to People Magazine. “We are very lucky with our little one. He is just so busy, he is all over the place. He keeps us on our toes. We are just so lucky.”
