The leader of Kosovo’s largest political party, Albin Kurti of Vetevendosje has called on Albanian Americans to vote for democratic candidate Joe Biden in the upcoming U.S. presidential election in two weeks.
“Hello to Albanians all over the United States. I am reaching out today to urge you to vote for Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election,” Kurti stated in a video message released on Friday.
He praised Biden’s early support of Albanians during the dissolution of Yugoslavia.
“He was among the first to denounce Serbian fascism in the Milosevic era, to call for American intervention in Bosnia and in Kosova, to demand the prosecution of Serbian war criminals, and to support the independence and the recognition of the republic of Kosova,” Kurti noted.
The former prime minister of Kosovo, allegedly toppled with the Trump administration’s support only a few weeks after taking power, also hit back at Trump’s presidency.
“Your voice is indispensable because the United States and Kosova are each in the midst of fighting the very same battle – a battle for equality before the law, for steady leadership and competent government, and for the preservation of democratic institutions against an entrenched political minority seeking permanent rule,” Kurti highlighted.
He stated that Biden’s presidency will bring new hope into Kosovo’s quest for mutual recognition with Serbia, “through a peace process that is honest, transparent, sensitive to history and fair.”
