If you think the PC craze has already reached absurd limits you may be mistaken, for the latest example breaks new ground in idiocy.

On Monday, after more than 100 years, Dreyer’s is changing its popular Eskimo Pie ice cream bar to Edy’s Pie. It was done not to offend Eskimos. One can understand the move after last year’s Million Eskimo March on Washington, where incensed Inuits and other ice cream victims registered their disgust at their century long oppression by Big Ice Cream. Okay, maybe not.

The ice cream company commented, “We are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory,” said Elizabell Marquez, head of marketing for its parent Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream. “This move is part of a larger review to ensure our company and brands reflect our people values…We anticipate Edy’s Pie ice cream bars to be on the shelf in early 2021. Our mission at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is to bring joy to everyday life with ice cream and we look forward to our Edy’s Pie ice cream bars continuing to do just that.”

The “solution to racial equality?” Of course. One recalls with awe the Selma Pistachio Boycott of the 1950s. The nation remembers with admiration Dr. King’s inspired words on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, “I have a dream. That one day I can go into a Baskin Robbins and get a Rocky Road and Caramel shake and not have the help give me a dirty look and then mess up my order. I have a dream!”

This is after Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Butterworth, and Uncle Ben also felt the PC chop, in a noble and successful effort to rid the world of racism.

This ridiculousness will continue, as we have become a nation of scared kittens, ready to prostrate ourselves at the slightest hiss from the eternal guardians of corporate good and marketing incompetence. French’s Mustard and Hebrew National Hot Dogs could not be reached for comment, but are considering changing their names to “Surrender at the Drop of a Hat Mustard” and “Goy Dogs,” respectively.
