Contrary to Democrat wishes and misinformation, Arizona will go for Trump on election day. For Democrats to be competitive they need much more than their current mail-in advantage. Republicans will erase that Tuesday. But incumbent Republican Senator Martha McSally may not be so fortunate. She has a hard fight and, for whatever reason, the president seems to be throwing her under the bus.

Granted, for the first time, Arizona Democrats are outpacing Republicans in early voting. But big deal because early voting has never been this widespread. So, new rules, some new outcomes. It doesn’t change the fact Arizona is still a red state.

In Maricopa County, the state’s largest county and home to 7.3 million of its population, officials report that Democrats accounted for only three percentage points more of the 1.1 million ballots received through Monday than Republicans. Some 39% of ballots were cast by Democrats. The Democrats expected more.

FNC: “Wednesday, County Recorder Adrian Fontes said voters had already returned more early ballots than were received in all of 2016. Over 2 million early ballots were requested this year, and more than 1.26 million have already been submitted, Fontes said. Four years ago, 1,251,975 Maricopa County voters cast their ballot during the entire early-voting period.”

“Maricopa voters like to vote early, and this election has been no exception,” said Fontes. “We are seeing a record number of early ballots returned, and the enthusiasm is very exciting.”

President Trump won Arizona by 91,000 votes in 2016, with 48% of ballots compared with Hillary Clinton’s 44%. He’ll keep it.

In a bizarre turn of events, President Trump allowed Senator Martha McSally very little stage time during his rally in Goodyear, AZ, on Wednesday. And he told her to make it “quick.”

“Martha, just come up fast. Fast. Fast. Come on. Quick. You got one minute! One minute, Martha! They don’t want to hear this, Martha. Come on. Let’s go. Quick, quick, quick. Come on. Let’s go.” Wow. “They don’t want to hear this?” Stick a fork in her, she’s done.

Then he praised the woman McSally beat in the primary, Dr. Kelli Ward, “A friend of mine, somebody that was great, she would have been — oh, if she didn’t have three, four people running at the same time — she would’ve been your senator. Hate to say it, she would have been your senator. A friend that’s so loyal, and strong, and a good person, Arizona GOP chair, Kelli Ward. She’s worked so hard. She is some warrior, and fighter.” Martha McSally did something to tick off the president. He is not shy about showing it. That is much, one would guess, to the annoyance of Mitch McConnell.
