Yesterday, we reported that the mother of NBA legend Kobe Bryant’s widow Vanessa had given a tearful interview claiming that her daughter had kicked her out of her home and taken back the car she had given her. Now, Vanessa is firing back to deny these claims and to slam her mother for having the “audacity” to accuse her of this while she is still mourning the loss of her husband and 13 year-old daughter Gianna.

Daily Mail reported that Vanessa was left with no choice but to defend herself after her mother Sofia Laine gave a shocking interview to Univision on Monday, claiming her daughter had evicted her and stripped her of her belongings. Vanessa responded by denying the claims and blasting her mother for “shedding tears for a car and a house that were not in her name” while she is still in mourning for her husband and daughter, who died in a helicopter crash with seven others back in January.

“My husband and daughter passed away unexpectedly, and yet my mother had the audacity to do a television interview speaking negatively of me while shedding tears for a car and a house that were not in her name,” Vanessa said in a statement. “She has removed all her diamond jewelry, emptied the apartment I provided, and put away the furniture to make it look like she doesn’t have my support.”

Vanessa went on to say that she and her husband supported her mom for decades, which has made these new allegations all the more “painful.” She also denied reports that her mother had been her “rock” in the wake of her husband and daughter’s deaths.

“My husband and I have supported her financially for the past 20 years, and continue to do so, in addition to her monthly alimony,” Vanessa said. “Contrary to previous reports, she has not been physically present or emotionally supportive of my daughters and me after my husband and daughter passed away.”

“Now I see what is most important to my mother and it’s more than painful,” she concluded. “I hope that everything that is coming out about our personal relationship ends here.”

Laine shocked everyone with the claims that she made about Vanessa in Monday’s interview.

“She told me, ‘I need you to get out of this house,'” Laine said in Spanish, referring to Vanessa. “She also told me that she wanted her car and she wants it now.”
