As the death toll from COVID-19 rises above 200,000, the debate about how the country handles the pandemic, and are masks the best form of protection rages on. For one Ohio woman, not wearing a mask landed her in handcuffs as a shocking video also shows her being tased.

First reported by the Ohio Star, Alecia Kitts was attending her son’s middle school football game in Logan, Ohio, which was a 90-minute drive away when police approached her for not wearing a mask. Surprisingly, Kitts didn’t see an issue with not wearing a mask as she was still practicing social distancing. Witnesses in the video even recall Kitts remaining 6 feet apart from other fans.

Still, the video (featured below) shows the officer pulling and tugging on Kitts as she yells “Get off me. You’re not arresting me for nothing, I ain’t doing nothing wrong!” The 3-minute ordeal takes a shocking turn as witnesses watch as the officer tases the lady, her screams echoing throughout the stands. Even onlookers express their disapproval for the abuse of power as they helplessly watch.

In the end, the Ohio Star reported that Kitts was charged with criminal trespassing and released on her own will.

As for the athletic director Theresa Schultheiss, she finds fault not in the police but in Kitts and her mother as the state was placed under a mandatory mask order back in July. Schultheiss told reporters that the family was the only one out of a crowd of 300 that weren’t wearing masks. She even said, “This rule has been in effect since we were told we could play. Everyone that came through ticketing tonight was reminded, we had regular announcements over the PA reminding you that mouths and noses needed to be covered and we had signs at the bathrooms.”

There is an interesting point in the video where a female officer can be seen running towards Kitts and her family. She is also not wearing a mask as many online viewers have pointed out. If wearing a mask is so important, then shouldn’t the officers be leading by example?
