A glimpse at Portland, Oregon plays like a scene from a dystopian novel as riots range on, Covid-19 numbers rise, and fires surge through the countryside. Since the killing of George Floyd in May, the city has become a breeding ground for civil unrest, causing many to worry the brutality will only increase as the election draws closer. According to a new poll, over 60% of Oregon voters are now against the ongoing protests and want law and order.

Performed by DHM Research, 66% of state voters were concerned about the protests that have continued for over 100 straight nights. Among them, 52% strongly disapproved of the riots and protests while the other 16% only somewhat disapproved.

The poll is particularly interesting because DHM Research is an independent, nonpartisan public-opinion firm. In short, they don’t allow any political party or business to control or alter the outcome of the study. This allows for a true poll without political meddling.

The results show that among the 31% of Oregon voters who supported the protests, only 12% strongly approved of their actions while 19% said they somewhat agreed.

The study also presented another question about what issues voters really wanted leaders to address. 70% found the protests to be less important than issues like homelessness, the economy, healthcare, and Covid-19.

As for the protests, more independent polls are showing the American people are in favor of police reform, but only when down in a law and order manner. It should be noted the “Law and Order” rhetoric is the same message President Trump has been preaching since May while sleepy Joe Biden remains to take a side due to potentially losing votes.
