The disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein just got some good news in court when prosecutors agreed to postpone extradition proceedings that would send the 68 year-old convicted rapist from a New York prison to Los Angeles, California to face additional sex crime charges there.

Fox News reported that Weinstein, who is serving a 23 year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault, made a brief appearance Friday in a Buffalo courtroom via video conference from prison. During this video conference, the extradition hearing was postponed until December 11.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said that prosecutors agreed to the delay because of the coronavirus pandemic. Kaitlyn Munro, a spokeswoman for Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, said that Weinstein only answered a few yes or no questions during Friday’s hearing.

The sexual abuse charges that Weinstein is facing in Los Angeles are similar to the ones he was already convicted of in New York. He has also been hit with lawsuits by multiple women who accuse him of sexual abuse. Weinstein has denied all the charges against him, and his spokesperson declined to comment.

Weinstein is currently serving his prison sentence at the maximum-security Wende Correctional Facility east of Buffalo.

Weinstein is known to be struggling in prison as he serves his lengthy sentence, with him testing positive for coronavirus back in March. The 68 year-old former movie mogul has since recovered from COVID-19, which has come to a surprise to those who know him given his poor health.

“We lost contact with him and were unable to get in touch with him after he tested positive because he was placed in isolation and under quarantine,” a source close to Weinstein said. “He had a fever and cough. The man is in poor health normally speaking, and has multiple pre-existing conditions. Honestly, I was very concerned.”

“I can’t believe he made it through this,” the insider added. “I was definitely thinking this would be the end of him.”

Weinstein was known for being one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, helming such award-winning movies as Shakespeare In Love and The Lord Of The Rings, before he was hit with numerous allegations of sexual assault at the start of the #MeToo movement. Given his advanced age and poor health, it is likely that he will not survive his lengthy prison sentence.
