It’s been one month since host Tom Bergeron was abruptly fired from “Dancing With The Stars,” which he had hosted since it premiered back in 2005, and replaced by supermodel Tyra Banks. Now, “DWTS” pro Witney Carson is revealing how Bergeron has been coping with his firing in the weeks since.

“Nobody saw that coming,” Carson said of Bergeron’s firing.

She went on to say that she had been texting back and forth with Bergeron in the wake of his firing.

“I’ve known the show just as Tom. I mean, I’ve [correlated] the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ show with Tom, so for him not to be there definitely is a huge change,” Carson said. “I just gave him my love and let him know that he’ll be missed. Tom and I, we’re really close. We always talk — every time after we perform on stage and he’s always there to kind of give us some good advice. He’s like a brother or like an uncle to me. Obviously we’re sad to see him go, but he was really in good spirits.”

While Carson is sad to see Bergeron go, she also expressed excitement about Banks joining the show.

“I’m really excited about Tyra, that’s amazing news,” she said, going on to add, “I’m also a huge fan of America’s Next Top Model. I kinda grew up watching Tyra, so she’s a little bit nostalgic for me, and I think it’ll bring back a lot of nostalgia for people.”

“I think that she is pretty relatable,” Carson added. “She’s really good on TV, she knows how to host, obviously. It will just be interesting to see her in the dancing realm. Like, I’m not sure how that’s gonna go, but I think she’s gonna be great. It will be really interesting to watch, for sure.”

This comes weeks after former “DWTS” winner Alfonso Ribeiro of “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air” fame blasted ABC for firing Bergeron.

“I’ve texted back and forth with Tom. I would’ve never made that decision, obviously. I think Tom and Erin are the backbone of the show,” Ribeiro told Us Weekly. “I have no idea where they’re going to go and what changes they want to make and why and how these decisions were made. But I think people like myself will absolutely miss Tom and Erin. It’ll be hard for me to see the show in whatever new form it is.”
