Things got messy on Tuesday night’s episode of “America’s Got Talent,” with contestant Jonathan Goodwin nearly sending the judges into a panic with his stunt.

Fox News reported that Goodwin took the stage to perform “Trial By Fire” for judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara, as well as for guest judge Kenan Thompson. He ended up keeping everyone on their seats so well that both Mandel and Vergara thought something was wrong.

The performer doused himself in oil as he attempted to escape padlocks, all while his vision was impaired and he was surrounded by fire.

“Do they have a medic here?” Vergara asked. “I don’t want to see this.”

Mandel lost it when Goodwin’s suit caught on fire, asking, “He’s on fire, somebody move in… Why is everybody just standing there?”

Goodwin, however, was soon able to escape unharmed, much to Mandel’s relief.

“Well done,” Mandel said afterwards. “See what I did there with the fire? I thought you were in trouble. I think that’s amazing and I’m glad you are alive.”

“How can you say anything negative to a man who puts himself on fire for us?” Klum said, before Vergara joked,  “I am so grateful that I am not your mother. It’s insanity.”

Judge Simon Cowell normally would have been on the panel as well, but he is on leave after nearly becoming paralyzed in an electric bike accident earlier this month. Mandel had previously said that he was “shocked” to hear the news of the accident.

“I love the guy,” Mandel said of Cowell. “He’s not only my boss and my co-worker, but he’s a good friend and I was so scared and so worried, but Simon is from another planet. He’s an amazing guy.”

He went on to add that Cowell is already up and walking around, and he even teased that he might make a return to “America’s Got Talent” this season.

“As much as it’s devastating, it’s also good news that he is going to be fine and make a full recovery,” Mandel said.

Last week, Kelly Clarkson stepped up to fill in for Cowell days after his accident.
