Country music legend Loretta Lynn spoke out last month to express her love for America while also revealing her sadness at the turmoil our country is facing right now.

She also urged her fans to look at the lyrics to her hit song “God Bless America Again,” saying that we need to hear those words now more than ever.

The 88 year-old icon took took to Instagram a few weeks ago to post a photo of an American flag flying at half-mast in front of a gorgeous sunset.

“I’ve had to turn my head from the TV a lot in the last few days,” Lynn began the caption.

“It breaks my heart to see anyone mistreated in any way. I was taught that you treat others the way you want to be treated. That simple truth has served me well my whole life.”

“As I’ve watched the pain and the hurt so many are in right now, I’ve just prayed for our country. We need God now, more than ever,” she continued.

“It reminded me of the song I recorded, ‘God Bless America Again.’ It feels like it still fits.”

Lynn concluded the powerful post with some of the lyrics to her 1972 song “God Bless America Again.”

“God I sure to wish you bless America again / You know like you did way back when it all began,” the lyrics of the song stated.

“You blessed her then but we just sorta kinda took it for granted / And never did ask again / So just hold her hand, God, that’s all / And if she should stumble please don’t let her fall / God bless America again.”

Lynn has been laying low in quarantine over the past few months due to the coronavirus pandemic, which she says she has never seen anything like in all her years.

“Yeah, we’ve been quarantined,” she told Billboard back in April.

“It’s the damnedest thing I ever seen.”

Lynn would be at serious risk of complications were she to contract COVID-19 given her advanced age, but she isn’t afraid of the virus taking her down.

“I’ll be fine,” she said.

“I think they’ll let me out of this anytime, basically whenever the problem is over. Then we’ll talk again.”
