Alex Trebek, the legendary host of the game show “Jeopardy!,” just opened up in a new interview about how he feels like a “burden” on his wife as he continues to battle stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

“There was one day a few weeks ago when [my wife] Jeanie asked me in the morning, ‘How do you feel?’ And I said, ‘I feel like I wanna die.’ It was that bad,” Trebek, 79,  told ABC News. “I apologize to her and explain that it has nothing to do with my love for her or my feelings for her.

“It just has to do with the fact that I feel like I’m a terrible burden to her, and that bothers me tremendously,” he added.

Trebek went on to credit his wife, who he has been married to for thirty years, with getting him through the difficult times in life.

“She’s a saint,” Trebek said as he began to tear up. “She has so much goodness in her that she is always giving out, always putting out to help me get over difficult moments. And there have been some difficult moments. I’m just in awe of the way she handles it.”

He also said that he’s gotten good at “faking” how he feels.

“There have been tough moments. And I don’t know what it is, but when it’s time to go, it’s time to go,” he explained. “Let’s do it. Get out there, suck it up, make it happen.”

In the end, Trebek said his love for “Jeopardy!” has played a huge role in how long he’s survived with this deadly form of cancer.

“My doctor has told me that he is counting on me celebrating two years of — survivorship past the diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. And that two years happens in February,” said Trebek. “So I expect to be around ‘cause he said I will be around. And I expect to be hosting the show if I am around.”

This comes days after Trebek gave a video update about his health to fans.

“I’m doing well,” he said. “I’ve been continuing my treatment and it is paying off. Though it does fatigue me a great deal, my numbers are good. I’m feeling great.”
